Hi, I’m Maria
Role: project manager. Parent. Expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn't in the plan for the long haul. Like many expatriate moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were challenging — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Routine tasks seemed more complicated than expected.
The Adjustment Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Created Lumen Harbor Trail
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to fill that void — practical advice drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- An official tourism authority resource
- Paid-review platform
- A general travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Maria
